Puffy Eyes, Dark Circles, Bags and Crows Feet - Understand Them to Prevent Them

Puffy eyes are a common complaint for those concerned about pre-mature aging.

The skin around the eye area is extremely thin and delicate.

Due to its lack of oil glands, it is usually our driest skin.

This being said, it is no wonder that our eyes and the surrounding skin can project a look of youth and health or quite the contrary. Hence, our eyes are the “windows to our souls.”

Often dark circles and puffy eyes are indicators of lack of sleep.

Not to mention the wrinkling and sagging skin that often emerges with time. Often, these symptoms will dissipate when enough sleep (8 hours/day for most of us) is achieved. Still, there are other reasons that contribute to tired looking eyes.

    Some Other “Tired Eyes” Contributors…

  • Hormonal changes
  • Heredity
  • Sun damage
  • Poor circulation
  • Nutrient deficiency
  • Allergies
  • Excessive rubbing of eyes and squinting
  • Illness
  • Pregnancy (edema)
  • Normal aging

Eye Care for Everyone…

Making sure that you have adequate sun protection for your eyes is paramount.

Sunglasses with UV protection are essential. They not only protect the eyes themselves from harmful sunrays but the surrounding skin as well. (Get help finding your best sunscreen here.)

Remember, that your sunglasses should also be worn on windy days. Hardy winds blow dust and other potential pollutants into our eyes causing us to squint.

Moisturizing is also of vital importance for facial skin care .

Certain moisturizers can help with puffy eyes while others may help with dark circles.

All should help to lesson the appearance of crows feet and wrinkles.

The ones with antioxidants will help to prevent premature aging by free radicals. Use your moisturizer both in the morning and before bed.

Something we can all do but most of us don’t are exercises for the eyes.

These exercises are quick and easy and assist in getting circulation moving in the eye area.

Eye exercises are believed to help reduce puffy eyes, dark circles as well as strengthen (firm) skin around the eyes.

Three eye exercises…

1. Pick a focal point at eye level straight in front of you. This will be your “come back” point after every step. Start by imagining you are sitting in the center of a giant clock. Begin by looking up at 12:00, then back to the focal point. Next, look at 1:00 and back to focal point and so on… After you have come full circle you may repeat this exercise going counter clockwise.

2. No time or patience for step one? Well, you can simply roll your eyes in giant circles. First clockwise and then back. You may also want to gently “pat” the skin around your eyes to release fluid build up and increase circulation.

3. Finally, you may want to try finding a focal point directly in front of you. While looking at that point raise your eyebrows as far as they will go. Hold for 5 seconds and release. Repeat 3 times. Then, do the same thing while dropping your chin (mouth open) as far as it will go. Hold for 5 seconds and release. Repeat 3 times.
