Natural Baby Skin Care

Natural baby skin care is becoming increasingly popular for good reason!

As we recognize that many ingredients are absorbed through the skin, diligent parents have become avid label readers.

The emergence of baby rashes and other skin conditions raise additional concerns.

A persistant baby face rash is increasingly being diagnosed as a possible sign of food allergy. You can see my son's food allergy rash here.

Others are common rashes from diapers, baby wipes and conventional skin care products.

Skin with baby eczema is more susceptible to permeability. Making natural baby skin care a top priority for parents.

Below is a list of ingredients found in many natural baby products . These are all great moisturizers, but they also do "double or even quadruple duty" as you can see...

Look for Natural Preservatives

Synthetic preservatives give products a very long shelf-life. These are often the biggest culprits when it comes to added chemicals.

Unfortunately, there are growing health concerns and skin problems related to the many man-made varieties. This is especially true for baby skin and bath products.

A certified organic baby skin care lotion or cream should have minimal or zero synthetic chemicals. They may use natural preservatives such as... Grapeseed oil, Vitamin E, Tea Tree oil, and Myrrh.

Dangerous Ingredients to Avoid for Natural Baby Skin Care

Other ingredients to avoid are fragrances and harsh alcohols. Anything labeled "Isopropyl" can dry the skin and should be avoided.

The same is true for common detergents found in cleansers and shampoos. These strip skin of its natural protective barrier and can worsen many kinds of baby rashes.

Diaper rash is probably the most common skin condition among infants. Sometimes babies are sensitive to something in the diaper itself.

Using cloth diapers can help some infants and has become a great deal easier due to modern designs.

Baby wipes are another culprit for baby rashes. Many conventional brands carry a multitude of harsh chemicals and preservatives.

Of course baby wipes are used repeatedly throughout the day and night against baby's skin.

Unless you are absolutely comfortable with all the ingredients never use store bought wipes on their faces. Especially if they have a baby face rash.

According to the Environmental Working Group's (EWG) data there are 3 major ingredients to avoid in baby wipes...

1. 2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3-Diol (or Bronopol)

2. DMDM Hydantoin

Both of these are used as preservatives. They are considered potential allergens that can form cancer causing contaminants.

3. Fragrance - allergens that may contain neurotoxic or hormone disrupting chemicals.
