Homemade Skin Care Recipes Made Simple

As the world of natural skin care continues to evolve, so does the demand for homemade skin care recipes...

While skin differs greatly from person to person there are many beneficial things most of us can use for the betterment of our complexions.

My personal favorite, is the olive oil mask that can be found on the homemade facial moisturizer page. However, there are many more to suit your individual needs. For instance...

Exfoliating with Homemade Skin Care

For the Face:

1/8 cup teaspoon granulated sugar (sloughs off dead cells)
1/4 cup plain yogurt (calms, moisturizes and tightens pores)

Mix lightly until the sugar in combined. Gently rub in circles on face and neck. Rinse with cool or warm water. Follow with moisturizer.

* 3 teaspoons of finely ground walnuts or almonds can also be used in place of the sugar.

** Extra tip! Before a night out or a hot date - gently rub plain sugar in circles over lips. This will give your lips a temporary plumpness and make them extra kiss-ably soft!

For the Feet:

3/4 cup Epson salts - soothing
1/2 cup sea salt - contains minerals
1 Gallon warm water

Soak for 10 minutes then use a pumice stone to reveal beautiful feet!

* Extra tip! Save time at the end for a self pedicure. This is the best time to trim and clean up nails and cuticles!

For the Body:

3/4 cup ground caffeinated coffee
2-3 Tlb olive oil (any natural oil will do)

Make a paste and scrub all over body to hydrate and exfoliate. Rinse off in the shower. You can make a big batch where the extras can be refrigerated for up to one week.

* Extra tip! This natural skin care recipe has been used to temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite. For more information please visit the Cellulite Reduction page.

For Dry Scalp and Hair:

Here comes the all mighty olive oil again. Gotta love this stuff!

Use no more than 1/4 cup of olive oil (less if you have hair on the oily side) and massage onto scalp. Comb through hair to distribute the oil. Rinse, with an all natural shampoo. The oil will dislodge scales on the scalp and effectively moisturize to help prevent further build-up.

Homemade Skin Care Masks

Dry Skin or Winter Mask...

Take the meaty part of an avocado and mix with just enough plain yogurt to make a thick paste. Apply to face and neck and let sit for 10-20 minutes. Rinse with water for hydrated, glowing skin.

* Extra tip! Some people like to use this concoction on their hair for a deep conditioning. However, it may take a lot of avocados. The lecithin in the avocado is a fabulous moisturizer for both skin and hair! The yogurt acts to tone and tighten skin.

For Dry Skin and Natural Anti Aging...
Mash 1-2 bananas (not too runny) and add a touch of honey or olive oil if desired (but not necessary) and let dry for approximately 10 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

* Sometimes granulated sugar is added to buff off old skin cells while massaging onto face!

For Combination and Oily Skin...

Mix one egg with 1/2 cup of instant oatmeal. Then add either one teaspoon of olive oil or honey. Mix until creamy and apply generously to face and neck. Let sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

* For oily skin types... if your skin is very oily you may wish to omit the egg white and only use the yolk for this mask.

Other Quick Homemade Skin Care Tips....

  • Freshly cut cucumber slices placed over eyes can do wonders to minimize puffiness.
  • Fresh lemon rubbed gently on dark sun/age spots can help fade them.
  • When applied to a pimple, fresh garlic can reduce or remove it by killing off bacteria.
  • Some have found that using a slice of fresh potato will also help to diminish acne blemishes.

More benefits to making your own natural skin care recipe...

1. They are less expensive than most store bought brands.

2. You control what goes in - no harsh ingredients entering your system (see sodium lauryl sulfate page for ingredients to avoid).

3. You can mix and match, add and delete ingredients as you experiment.

The possibilities and variations for homemade skin care are limitless.

I included some of the more common "tried and true" variations that my friends and I have been using for years.

These are simple and the ingredients can be found in most kitchens without a special trip to the store.

Have fun experimenting and come back as this website and your resource for natural skin care recipes grow.
