Homemade Baby Wipes for Skin and Health
Homemade baby wipes are a wonderful alternative for parents seeking healthy skin care for baby.
There are many variations for homemade baby wipes.
Doing a web search will yield plenty of options. However, some of them can get pretty complicated. The good news is... it doesn't have to be!
All you need for making your own organic baby wipes is...
Organic Olive Oil
Organic Baby Wash
Boiled Water
That's it!
After boiling the water add equal parts oil and baby wash. A good ratio to use goes like this...
1 Tbls each of oil and baby wash for 1 cup water
OR
2 Tbls each of oil and baby wash for 2 cups water
Next...
1. Put the solution in a "BPA free" plastic or glass spray bottle. Spray a very soft paper towel, or tissue to wipe.
OR
2. Make a tub of soaked pads. You can use the cotton, cosmetic pads used for makeup removal. Or you can use cloth for baby wipes. Simply fill a tub with whichever you choose and add the solution to saturate but not completely drowned the wipes. Cover and use them when needed.
Ideas for Making Cloth Baby Wipes...
These are great for reusing and saving even more money. They are also the most environmentally friendly option.
Simply cut cloth diapers or old receiving blankets into small sheets. Wash cloths are another alternative. Anything soft and durable will work.
Reusing cloth baby wipes isn't appealing or practical for everyone. A good compromise would be to use the cloth wipes for most changes. Have paper towels or tissue on hand for real messy ones.
Are Conventional Baby Wipes Toxic?
Most popular store bought brands have very long ingredient lists. According to the Environmental Working Network there are numerous baby wipes deemed at least moderately hazardous. Read more about

Don't Forget!
Your organic baby wipes will not be full of chemical preservatives. This is great for baby's tender skin and health. However, this means your wipes won't have a very long shelf-life.
Wash your containers between batches and take notice of any musty smells.
Adding a bit of Vitamin E (from a capsule) will naturally help preserve your solution and adds a great moisturizing component!
For a toddler over 2 years, honey will also make a great natural preservative.
Have fun and feel good about making homemade baby wipes. It's truly a win-Win-WIN situation!
