Beat Eczema with Home Remedies for Eczema!
Home remedies for eczema can be a natural cure for itchy skin.
"Is there a cure for eczema?"
There is no known absolute cure. But many people including my family are using natural treatments and eczema home remedies to get the upper hand on this skin disorder.
You can beat eczema by finding home remedies for eczema that work for you!
This skin condition is increasingly commmon affecting both young and old.
Diagnoses from a dermatologist is always recommended.
After educating yourself on your treatment options you may wish to try one or more of the most common home remedies for eczema...
1. Oatmeal Bath - A colloidal oatmeal bath can provide soothing relief for itchy skin.
Colloidal oatmeal can be bought in stores (commonly known as Aveeno Oatmeal Bath) or made at home.
All you need is plain, unflavored oatmeal and a food processor, blender or coffee grinder.
Be sure to grind the oats to as fine a powder as possible. When added to water it should make it silky and give it a cloudy or white appearance.
I use a colloidal oatmeal bath as a treatment for
baby eczema.
2. Honey for Eczema - Honey has great moisturizing and anti inflammatory properties. It can be mixed with other home remedies for eczema to make pastes and serums.
Manuka honey has been getting a lot of buzz lately. Touted for its amazing ability to heal, protect and moisturize skin, people are finding this "miracle" honey to be a cure for eczema.
3. Here Comes the Sun! - Yes. I said it!
Sunlight can have an interesting and seemingly healing affect on this skin condition.
While there's no question that too much sun damages skin, short amounts of the golden light provides us with much needed Vitamin D.
Eczema is widely believed to be an immune system disorder. Vitamin D is one the best immune system boosters available - and it's free!
Short periods (10 minutes max) in the early morning or evening sun usually brings my son's complexion back to normal after a flare.
4. Beat Eczema with Olive Oil- used alone or added to an oatmeal bath is one of the most populare eczema home remedies.
Olive oil has anti inflammatory and moisturizing properties. Use it with honey to make a thicker and more effective paste.
5. Nutmeg - is one of the most common home remedies for eczema.
Most people mix it with honey or olive oil to make a paste.
6. Turmeric for Eczema - This Asian herb has strong anti inflammatory properties. As with nutmeg it can be added to oils or lotions to beat eczema.
Turmeric is also taken orally as part of an eczema diet.
7. Use Humidifiers - especially in arid climates and during dry winter months.
This is often an under utilized but highly effective means to treat all forms of dry skin - including eczema.
8. Bathe wisely - Those who suffer with this skin disorder need to pay special attention to what is in their skin care and bath products.
Harsh detergents found in cleansers, shampoos and even bubble baths can induce inflammations. In addition, products containing artificial fragrances and colors are often considered a common
cause of eczema.
Apply a natural or organic moisturizer while skin is still wet damp.
9. Dress Accordingly - This means keeping away from rough fabrics. It also means staying away from fabrics that may have been heavily treated with chemicals.
Use mild detergents to wash your clothes. No dyes or perfumes should be contained in your laundry soap.
Organic, cotton clothing is a great option.
Although, not always practical to switch over your entire wardrobe... consider organic cotton pajamas and "house clothes" as a great compromise.
10. Neem oil - is an effective
natural treatment for eczema.
Harder to find than honey and olive oil, neem oil may work for those when other eczema home remedies fail.
See natural
cures for psoriasis.
Many of these treatments overlap and work for eczema and other skin disorders!
Using home remedies for eczema may take some experimentation. What works for one person may not work for another.
However, there are a growing number of believers.
Treating eczema
naturally can be safe, relatively inexpensive and effective!
