Baby Eczema
Relieve Dry Itchy Skin and Baby Eczema Naturally
I successfully control my both my sons' infant eczema with natural eczema treatments.
When eczema first appears it can look like rough reddish-brown patches of skin.
These areas of dry itchy skin usually develop first on the face, hands, feet and legs. Although baby eczema can be found anywhere on the body.
Infant eczema can also look like rosy cheeks when it first appears. This was the case with my youngest son. Had I known what it was, I would have started using safe eczema treatments at this point.
After displaying this "rosy glow" (see his
eczema pictures here)
little red bumps displayed themselves on each side of his face.
These areas were bumpy and tight feeling. Due to the chronic occurence of inflammations, I knew it was more than dry itchy skin.
What is baby eczema and why is it so common?
Infant eczema is an inflammatory disease that breaks down skin making it itchy and raw.
This broken skin is more able to absorb beneficial ingredients as well as dangerous ingredients from skin care products. This makes a
natural treatment for eczema
a healthy choice for baby.
Infant eczema is related to allergies and asthma. If these traits run in your family your babies have a good chance of developing eczema.
Is there anything that will cure eczema?
At this point there is no known cure. However, I've successfully managed my son's inflammations and dry itchy skin with natural eczema treatments.
We have been using an organic bottom balm as a baby eczema treatment.
It's made with the moisturizing properties of olive oil and the healing power of calendula.
Great for diaper rashes, I've found this product from Earth Mama Angel Baby® to be fabulous for healing eczema rashes and minor cuts and scrapes.
It's all natural with no synthetic ingredients, so I feel good about using it as often as necessary. (See bottom of page for product image.)
Are there other natural remedies for
treating eczema
?
Wash all clothes in a "dye free" and "fragrance free" detergent made for sensitive skin.
Be sure to wash new clothes BEFORE they wear them.
Organic baby clothes
and bedding are a great option for children with baby eczema.
A cool mist humidifier can add moisture to the air and relieve dry itchy skin.
Except for newborns, daily applications of natural lotion are in order.
Infant eczema doesn't usually show up until baby's about 3 months old. By then, you can use an organic lotion for their skin.
Be sure to apply it soon after a bath when their skin is still moist to lock in moisture. Two applications per day are sometimes necessary. You can visit the
natural baby products
page for newborn care.
Tip! Start really using the moisturizer (or natural baby eczema treatment) BEFORE you anticipate inflammations. For instance, start increasing the frequency and amount of baby lotion you use in the fall before the dry winter months.
Don't bathe babe too frequently and only use a mild soap on dirty areas.
Use
organic baby bath products
and natural eczema treatments whenever you can. Adding colloidal oatmeal or olive oil to bath water provides moisture and relief.
Be sure to keep baby's fingernails as short as possible to avoid scratching inflamed skin.
What are the trigger factors for flare ups?
In adults it is often stress related. For children it is mostly due to dry environmental conditions, such as forced air heat.
However, harsh chemicals found in skin care products and bubble baths can cause inflammations.
It is especially dangerous for a baby with weakened skin to be sitting in a toxic soup. Please read the
cause of eczema page
for important information!
Infant eczema might be worsened by certain food allergies.
See
eczema photos
that show my youngest son's rash as it became inflammed from food allergies.
It can also be aggravated by rough clothing such as wool, heavy perfumes and dust mites.
An air purifier helps to collect dust and allergens in the air. This can be an important part of an effective baby eczema treatment.
Will the baby eczema ever go away?
Yes, most babies eventually grow out of it. Although many will have dry skin throughout their lifetimes. This can make serious
dry skin care
a daily routine.
Until then, manage their delicate, dry itchy skin with natural eczema treatments and loving care.
