Natural Baby Acne Treatment

"What is Baby Acne and is There Effective Baby Acne Treatment?"

Neonatal acne is the appearance of tiny red bumps usually seen on the face of infants.

It is thought to be due to the passing of hormones from mother to baby just before delivery.

Developing at about 3 or 4 weeks, baby acne (a.k.a. neonatal acne) is largely harmless.

Skin between the acne cysts is often red in color. If baby becomes hot or agitated the whole area can take on an intense scarlet appearance.

Sometimes whiteheads occur, confusing it with common newborn milia.

"Is There an Effective Baby Acne Treatment?"

As with most baby rashes and skin conditions, less is more.

Babies are changing rapidly and most skin problems cure themselves with time.

Neonatal acne is no different. It is usually best to leave it alone.

However, there are things you can do to maintain healthy skin and make it more comfortable for baby...

    1. Use natural baby products on skin and clothing. If acne persists on baby's body, you may consider organic baby clothes and bedding. These are free of skin irritating chemicals and dyes.

    2. Clean face and neck with water from spilled milk or saliva. Blot, rinse and pat rather than rub baby's skin.

    3. Don't use lotions with heavy oils or petroleum products on baby's skin. These suffocate skin and may cause more problems.

Instead, find organic lotions with light oils such as jojoba or olive oils. These moisturize without clogging pores. Here is some Organic Baby Skin Care at a Great Value. icon

    4. Don't over-cleanse skin as a baby acne treatment.

Acne is not a result of a dirty face. Stripping skin with strong cleansers is very damaging. Use mild soaps that are free of sodium lauryl sulfate , alcohol and other drying ingredients. Water is usually sufficient for a very young baby.

    5. Rough fabrics and fragranced detergents on clothes and blankets can aggravate acne.

    6. Never try to squeeze or extract a cyst of any kind on a baby. This can lead to scarring and infection!

"Will my Baby Get Acne as a Teenager?"

There is no known correlation between those individuals who have baby acne and those who later develop acne as an adult or adolescent.

Although, neonatal acne can last for several months with periods of "remission."

Sometimes, acne begins in an older baby and lingers into the toddler years. This is called, infantile acne. It more closely resembles that of a teen with black and whiteheads.

If acne is severe, consult a doctor. There are prescription medications for dealing with these cases.

Tea tree oil is sometimes used as a natural treatment for acne Be warned that this oil is very potent.

Tea tree oil in a much diluted form, such as an ingredient in a natural ointment or cleanser is best for baby.

By far the best plan of action when it comes to most cases of baby acne is simply not aggravating the condition.

Let nature take its course, relax and enjoy your precious time together.
