Tasty Anti Aging Diet Tips for Healthy Skin

Want to look your best? An anti aging diet will send you on your way. Not only that, you will begin to feel better too!

A successful healthy skin diet will take on the biggest aging culprits...

Inflammation... Stress... Dehydration

A healthy diet will aid in combating all of these aging factors. It requires specific nutrients and perhaps a few healthy lifestyle changes.

acai berry, healthy diet, antioxidants Let's start with the best of the best...

Number One Anti Aging Diet Food... The Acai Berry!

According to anti aging expert Dr. Perricone, the acai (ah-sigh-ee) berry is his number one superfood for the following reasons...

  • A high concentration of antioxidants that protect us from aging and boost our immune system.
  • A wonderful blend of fatty acids, fiber and phytosterols. All help to reduce inflammation.
  • Packed full of healthy amino acids and minerals.

Ask you grocer if they have acai pulp. This is the recommended part of the berry for optimal nutritional value.

You might need to go to your gourmet grocer to find it, but experts say it'll be worth it.

Keep in mind...

An anti aging diet rich in whole grains, fruits and vegetables should provide plenty of the vitamins your skin needs.

Luckily, getting enough antioxidants from anti aging foods doesn't always require a trip to the specialty grocer!

Deflate Inflammation and Stay Hydrated!

The inflammation of our cells and organs contributes greatly to aging.

Be sure to get Omega 3 fatty acids into your anti aging diet. Omega 3's reduce inflammation and help our organs (including skin) retain moisture.

Salmon, flaxseeds, evening primrose, walnuts and certain oils are good sources of Omega 3 fatty acids. Some folks prefer to take it in capsule form as part of their daily anti aging supplements.

In order to achieve and maintain glowing, youthful looking skin we need to be hydrated. Be sure that you are drinking enough water. Replace pop/soda, coffee, and other "non-essentials" with water when possible.

Drinking mineral water can supply minerals to your healthy diet you may otherwise be missing.

Another tip - drinking lukewarm water is thought to be better absorbed by our organs. Including skin!

Healthy Oils for Skin - Don't worry, your waistline will "Thank You!"

Healthy fats from certain oils help us absorb nutrients from food.

My all time favorite is olive oil.

It is mentioned frequently throughout this website for its many health benefits.

Rich in antioxidants and polyphenols it is great for us, inside and out. (See my favorite homemade facial moisturizer made with olive oil!)

Olive oil has a relatively high smoke point. Meaning, it can be heated fairly high without losing nutritional value. Even better, it is a great oil for dipping or dressing salads.

The "light" varieties don't necessarily mean fewer calories. In fact, many are of less nutritional value.

Unless you are planning on cooking with high heat, you should get more "bang for your buck" if you go for cold-pressed, extra virgin varieties.

Healthy fats can be high in calories. So exercise portion control rather than cutting out nutritious value and taste!

De-Stress to Get the Most from Your Healthy Skin Diet

This one could be the hardest of all!

Getting enough sleep and "letting go" can do wonders for your immune system and your complexion!

An exercise to try...

When lying down to sleep practice good breathing - take deep breaths in and out through the diaphragm.

I try and count slowly backwards from 10. When stressful thoughts "creep" in, I don't fight them. I quickly acknowledge and dismiss.

Then.. keep counting...s..l..o..w..l..y. Usually this is enough to lull me to sleep after a busy day.

An anti aging diet combined with the relaxation of meditation can truly make an impact. Remember to visualize yourself young and fit. Train your brain to keep you healthy!

Dark Chocolate Health Benefits!!!

You can have your cake and eat it too!

Well... sometimes. Dark chocolate in its pure form can be included in a healthy diet. It is loaded with flavonoids that act as antioxidants to protect us from aging.

It is believed that dark chocolate stimulates circulation and increases serotonin. A chemical produced by the body that reduces stress and anxiety!

The only caveat - it should be at least 60% natural cocoa.

Don't Blow It!

You can eat all of the above anti aging foods and still not get results if you counter act them with foods that age us. The following should be avoided as much as possible for an anti aging diet...

White Sugar and White Flour - are hard to digest and easily turn to fat. They can create a surge in hormones leading to acne and other skin inflammations.

Processed Foods - These lack anti aging vitamins and nutrients. Often they contain harmful additives and preservatives.

Fried or Fast Foods - Most of these varieties lack nutrients and are high in saturated fats.

Trans Fats (Hydrogenated Oils) - clog arteries and are hard to digest.

Excessive Alcohol - is dehydrating and even poisonous. Too much consumption may deplete the body of nutrients and even breakdown collagen in skin and joints.

Smoking - may also breakdown collagen. It is drying to the skin and robs us of needed vitamins. Just more reasons to quit!

An anti aging diet is the perfect compliment to your favorite topical moisturizers and anti aging creams.

It may include a few lifestyle adjustments. However, if you implement them every day, they will become a regular part of your healthy diet...
